Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, has announced significant progress in the establishment of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University. During a recent high-level review meeting, CM Sangma assessed the progress of infrastructure and other key elements to ensure the university’s smooth operation when it opens for its inaugural academic session.
In a social media update, CM Sangma stated, “I chaired a meeting to review key developments related to Capt Williamson Sangma State University. We have evaluated the progress of infrastructure and other essential requirements to ensure the university functions smoothly from the upcoming academic session.”
The announcement follows Education Minister Rakkam Sangma’s statement on May 6, revealing that 22 of Meghalaya’s 70 colleges have already agreed to affiliate with the new state university. The formal administrative procedures to finalize these affiliations are underway.
The Captain Williamson Sangma State University will be a major step forward for higher education in Meghalaya, addressing the long-standing trend of students leaving the state for their studies.
Additionally, Minister Sangma highlighted the improved academic performance in Meghalaya’s schools, attributing these positive changes to the combined efforts of students, teachers, and parents. He also acknowledged the state’s initiatives to support underperforming schools, contributing to enhanced educational outcomes.
The launch of Captain Williamson Sangma State University is set to create new opportunities for students in Meghalaya, keeping education within the state’s borders while providing quality academic options.
