Meghalaya: Tyisam Festival Begins at Golden Beach in Baghmara

Two-Day Cultural Extravaganza Kicks Off

The Tyisam Festival started on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Golden Beach in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, Meghalaya. The two-day event attracted enthusiastic participation from locals, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts.

The festival was inaugurated by Meghalaya Tourism Minister T.D. Shira, in the presence of local MLA Kartush R. Marak and several other dignitaries.


Minister Highlights Tourism Potential

Minister T.D. Shira expressed delight at attending the festival and noted that Baghmara’s Simsang Beach reminded him of Chennai’s Marina Beach, while emphasizing that Baghmara has a much larger sand area.

He encouraged the public to promote domestic tourism and create an environment that attracts visitors. The Minister added that tourism development could play a significant role in boosting the local economy. He further stated that the State Tourism Department is committed to developing tourism across Meghalaya and urged the people of South Garo Hills to make the area a tourist-friendly destination.
