The Meghalaya government is set to release a Rs 90 crore tender for the repair of National Highway-6 (NH-6), which was previously partially closed for essential infrastructure work. This significant investment aims to enhance the highway’s condition and ensure smoother transportation in the region.
The allocated funds will be used for constructing new bridges, retaining walls, and other critical infrastructure to improve the highway’s functionality and safety. The repair work is expected to be completed by March 2025, according to Santa Mary Shylla, MLA of the Sutnga Saipung Assembly Constituency.
Shylla confirmed that the construction has progressed up to the Sonapur area, with work continuing towards Malidor. To ensure the quality and efficiency of the repairs, the District Disaster Management Authority has issued a public advisory, imposing strict road closures from 9 am to 3 pm for the highway’s maintenance.
This initiative is a part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and boost connectivity, which will positively impact local economies and provide safer travel routes.
