Tripura Declared India’s Third Fully Literate State After Goa and Mizoram Under ULLAS Program

Tripura has officially become the third state in India to be declared fully literate, after Goa and Mizoram. This proud moment was announced on Monday under the ULLAS program (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society).

Literacy Rate Soars to 95.6%

Back in 1961, Tripura had a literacy rate of just 20.24%. Today, it has reached 95.6%, marking a major achievement. According to ULLAS, a state is considered functionally literate if the literacy rate crosses 95%.

What Leaders Said During the Ceremony

Chief Minister Manik Saha celebrated the achievement at the official ceremony. He was joined by leaders from the Education Department, the Ministry of Education, and community members who helped make this change possible.

He said, “This is a historic moment for Tripura. Achieving full literacy supports Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.”

He also urged the Education Department to keep working hard to further improve literacy.

What Made This Success Possible?

Tripura’s success came through the efforts of teachers, volunteers, and new learners who joined hands under the ULLAS program.

Launched in 2022, ULLAS focuses on providing basic reading, writing, and life skills to people aged 15 years and older. It follows the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Thanks to strong teamwork and planning, literacy reached every corner of the state.

Other Regions With Full Literacy

So far, only Goa and Mizoram have been declared fully literate states in India. Alongside them, Ladakh holds the title of a fully literate Union Territory.

What’s Next for Tripura?

Now that Tripura has reached full literacy, the focus will shift to advanced learning, digital skills, and ongoing education.

CM Saha praised the efforts of every person who made this goal possible. He also credited the success to the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”

With continued hard work and unity, Tripura is on the path to becoming a model education state for the rest of India.
