IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall Across Northeast, Eastern India, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a long spell of heavy to very heavy rain over the next week across the Northeast and eastern India. On August 8, Arunachal Pradesh may see extremely heavy rainfall, with some areas getting over 21 cm.

Intense Rainfall Expected in Northeast States

States like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive heavy rain on August 8 and 9. Assam and Meghalaya might experience another round of intense showers around August 12 and 13.

Heavy Showers Forecast for Hill States

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will have scattered heavy rains from August 7 to 13. Rainfall is expected to increase towards the end of this period. From August 10, a fresh wave of heavy rain will also impact parts of Uttar Pradesh.

  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may receive isolated heavy showers on August 7 and 11.

  • Bihar and Tamil Nadu are forecasted to get scattered heavy rains on August 8.

Flood and Landslide Warnings for Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh faces a serious risk of flooding and landslides due to ongoing heavy rain. The IMD has issued warnings for extremely heavy rainfall again on August 8.

Recent Rainfall Summary

In the last 24 hours, Tripura recorded extremely heavy rain (over 21 cm) at some locations. Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20 cm) was reported in parts of Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh. Several regions, including eastern Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand, Telangana, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, experienced heavy showers between 7 to 11 cm.

Weather Update for Delhi-NCR

Delhi-NCR is expected to have partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain or thundershowers in the evenings or nights for the next few days.

  • August 7 will see maximum temperatures between 36°C and 38°C, 2 to 4 degrees above normal, with winds from the southwest during the day and the west at night at speeds of 10–15 km/h.

  • On August 8, light rain will continue, with temperatures steady and minimums dropping to 24–26°C, which is slightly below normal. Winds will change direction to northwest during the day and south at night, slowing down to 5–10 km/h.

  • August 9 will bring a slight temperature drop, with highs of 32–34°C and lows of 24–26°C, both below average.

  • On August 10, partly cloudy weather with light showers will continue. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly to 33–35°C. Winds will come from the northeast and become stronger later in the day.
