Major Drug Bust in Aizawl: 40 Kg Methamphetamine and 3 Kg Heroin Seized, Three Arrested

Drug Seizure Overview

In a significant drug operation, Mizoram police have confiscated 40 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 3 kg of heroin, valued at over Rs 6 crore. The seizures were made in two separate operations in Aizawl, according to Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte.

Details of the Operation

The arrests and drug seizures were carried out by the CID (Special Branch) team. On Monday, the team executed a covert operation on the outskirts of Aizawl. They intercepted two vehicles in the Hualngohmun area.

  • First Vehicle: 32 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 249 grams of heroin, with a combined value of Rs 4.2 crore, were recovered.
  • Second Vehicle: 8 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 565 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 1.2 crore, were found.

The drugs were hidden inside the door panels of the vehicles.

Arrests and Subsequent Actions

Two Myanmar nationals, Lalthansiama (26) and Zoremmawia (23), were arrested for drug possession. A juvenile, a Mizoram resident, was also taken into custody.

During the operation, one vehicle sped away but was later intercepted in the Zuangtui area. This vehicle contained 2.2 kg of heroin, worth Rs 68.5 lakh. The driver escaped, but a juvenile passenger was arrested.

Legal Proceedings

The three accused, including the juvenile, and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station in Aizawl. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Foreigners Act for further investigation and legal action.

This operation marks a major success in the fight against drug trafficking in Mizoram, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the region.
