Meghalaya Government Enforces Centre’s National Security Directive
The Meghalaya government has issued strict orders for all Pakistani nationals residing in the state to exit India by the end of April 2025. This action aligns with the Centre’s intensified national security measures, which include suspension of visa services and revocation of most Pakistani visas, excluding diplomatic, official, and long-term visas.
Official Orders Issued for Immediate Departure
In an official notice, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) of Ri Bhoi District, VS Rathore, directed that Pakistani nationals must leave Meghalaya and India by April 27, 2025, unless they hold long-term, diplomatic, or official visas.
Those holding Medical Visas are instructed to depart by April 29, while individuals with SAARC Visas must leave by April 26.
Legal Action for Non-Compliance
Authorities have made it clear that any violation of these orders will lead to strict legal action, including criminal prosecution under applicable Indian laws.
Additionally, a similar advisory was issued in the East Khasi Hills District, where Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem emphasized the same deadline of April 26 for Pakistani nationals in his jurisdiction.
Public Urged to Stay Alert
The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected presence of Pakistani nationals by contacting the police emergency helpline 112.
Heightened Security After Pahalgam Terror Attack
The decision follows rising concerns after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 people, including a Nepali national, lost their lives when militants opened fire at tourists in Baisaran meadow.
Since then, both state and central governments have tightened security, issued nationwide alerts, and increased surveillance to prevent any further threats.
