Meghalaya Police Bust Mumbai Racket Behind Illegal Bangladeshi Immigration and Fake ID Fraud

Illegal Entry Detected at Ri Bhoi Check Post

Meghalaya Police recently stopped a group of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. The group was traveling from Guwahati to Shillong. Officers caught them at the Nongpoh Check Post in Ri Bhoi district on February 14.

Police detained five people—four adults and one minor. At first, they claimed to be Indian citizens. They even showed Aadhaar and PAN cards. But later, they admitted they had crossed the border illegally with the help of a smuggling network.

Fake ID Cards and Mumbai Connection Uncovered

The detainees told police they had gone to Mumbai to find jobs. There, they got fake identity documents from people involved in the racket. They also said they were planning to return to Bangladesh.

After further investigation, police found out that the racket was operating from Mumbai. The group helped illegal immigrants open bank accounts using fake IDs. These accounts were used for loan fraud and cybercrimes.

Special Team Sent to Mumbai for Raids

The Meghalaya Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Assistant Superintendent of Police Ashu Pant led the team. They went to Mumbai and worked with local police.

The team conducted raids in Navi Mumbai and South Mumbai. These operations lasted for a week and brought major results.

Arrests Made, Forged Documents Seized

During the raids, the police found fake documents, digital evidence, and equipment used to create fake ID cards. Officers arrested three key suspects in South Mumbai:

  • Nusrat A Kazi
  • Jabir Yunus Shaikh
  • Shaikh Mohd Mujib

Suspects to Face Charges in Meghalaya

The suspects will be brought back to Meghalaya for further legal action. They will face charges for illegal immigration, fraud, and cybercrime.
