“Saif Ali Khan’s Attacker Entered India Illegally, Used Fake Aadhaar to Procure SIM Card”

Overview of Attack on Saif Ali Khan

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in a stabbing incident at his high-end apartment in Bandra, Mumbai on January 16, 2025. The assailant, later identified as Fakir, attempted a burglary during which he injured the actor. Saif was immediately treated at Lilavati Hospital and is reported to be recovering well.

Assailant’s Journey into India

The attacker, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, crossed the Dawki River in Meghalaya to illegally enter India about seven months ago. Fakir, who later changed his name to Vijay Das, resided briefly in West Bengal where he used a local resident’s Aadhaar card to obtain a SIM card.

Fake Identity and SIM Card Fraud

Before relocating to Mumbai, Fakir used the Aadhaar card of Khukumoni Jahangir Sekha from West Bengal to acquire a SIM card. This allowed him to stay undetected while searching for employment in the city. However, he attempted to obtain an Aadhaar card for himself but failed.

Fingerprints Collected from Crime Scene

As part of the investigation, Mumbai Police collected multiple fingerprints from the crime scene. The fingerprints were found on various surfaces, including the bathroom window, duct shaft, and the ladder Fakir used to enter the building. These pieces of evidence were crucial in linking the attacker to the crime.

Fakir’s Attempt to Escape Arrest

Following the stabbing, Fakir hid in the garden of the building for around two hours to avoid capture. He remained in hiding before being apprehended by the Mumbai Police. The police later recreated the crime scene with the attacker to understand the sequence of events better.

Investigation and Legal Action

Fakir was arrested in Thane three days after the attack. The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bandra has placed Fakir under five-day police custody for further questioning. The police continue to investigate the case, focusing on the attacker’s motives and possible connections to organized crime.
